Authorities said a teenager broke a Nassau County police officer’s thumb while resisting arrest near his Uniondale home on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers on patrol spotted 17-year-old Shadrach Ford with a handgun at the corner of Argyle Avenue and Davis Avenue but he fled when the officers tried to question him at 1:48 p.m., police said.
When the officers caught him after a brief foot chase, Ford grabbed the left thumb of an officer and broke it before he was taken into custody, police said.
The injured officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Ford was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
He will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
