UPDATE: Copiague LIRR Accident Victims Identified
Two people were reportedly struck and killed by an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train west of the Copiague station during the Tuesday evening rush-hour commute.
The two female victims were hit by a non-passenger train at about 6:30 p.m., LIRR spokesman Sam Zambuto told The Associated Press. The victims were reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
Service was temporarily suspended on the Babylon Branch while investigators gathered evidence. It was later restored with up to hour-long delays.
MTA Police are investigating the deaths. The victims’ identities were not immediately available.
