An alleged drunken driver who had a three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system was arrested after he crashed his car on the Southern State Parkway in North Massapequa over the weekend, New York State police said.
A state Trooper on patrol saw a westbound Nissan Maxima lose control near exit 30, drive off the shoulder and into an embankment at 8:34 p.m. Friday, police said.
The driver, 29-year-old Shane Lewis of Amityville, smelled of alcohol, failed sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.25 percent, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent, police said.
Lewis was charged with driving while intoxicated as a felony due to a prior conviction in the past 10 years and traffic violations.
He is due at First District Court in Hempstead on March 9.
