A basic reform would be to continue psychiatric medications on anyone incarcerated.

This seems to be rarely done in the chaos of the arrest, with often disasterous effect.

I can’t speak of all the suicides, but I know ALL about the Woody death. After making real attempts at self-harm, he was in the PW hallway with a NUMC aide outside his open door as he was shackled to the bed (1 to 1 status). There were several other i/m s in similar conditions as well.
On the day of Woody’s death, another i/m needed to be placed in 1 to 1. There were no other aides, so the psych dr. had to decide who to take off 1 to 1. Of all the 1 to 1 inmates, Woody was the most legit (the one most likely to harm himself). After being told this, the dr. disagreed and took Woody off the 1 to 1. After all, Dr. knows best!

The private healthcare company that has been brought in, is nothing more then a profit driven organization. Research their corporate website and you will see. Those that run the medical unit are not concerned about how they can help, but how they can do as minimal as possible and gain a reputation of being the “saviors” of the medical dept. The staff that works there do not meet the state requirements of what is considered to be adaquit,professional staff based on the laws goverened by the state. They are just sub-par.
