blood drive2 e1325261214132Rob Wiedmann, a firefighter from Islip Terrace, is in desperate need for the very rare type O Negative blood.

He was badly burned on the job last week and is in intensive care in critical condition.

Wiedmann, a New York City firefighter, suffered burns over 50 percent of his body in a Dec. 20 blaze. A blood drive is set to run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at the Baldwin Fire Department.

Wiedmann will likely need several surgeries over the coming weeks and months. Doctors have said he’s expected to spend six to eight weeks in a hospital.

Wiedmann was rescued through a third-story window. Another firefighter, James Gersbeck, also was seriously hurt but was able to escape down the stairs.

Three other firefighters were treated and released.

To donate blood for Wiedmann, contact the NY Blood Center at 1-800-439-6876, patient number 203859, file number 71614.
