Deputy Commissioner Flanaghan, recently arrested was making 225,000 a year, absolutely rediculous. Three days on 4 off, another 2 on and three off. This is the same police department that ran the crime lab where dozens of cases were thrown out because of the way they ran it. They had to outsource the evidence to Pennsylvania at 125,000 per month at taxpayer expense. Disgraceful !

Good for Mangano these Police Unions have abused the tax payer in Nassau County for years and enough is enough. This is one reason why the taxes are so high as they are in Nassau County.

Dont get me wrong. But Im for Mangano cutting down on police in Nassau County. They are way to many police running around and all they do is pull people over constantly to issue summons and tickets, and Im sick of it. Its harassment.Im Geting tired of seeing police pulling over car after car in those speed stings for quotes. Its wrong. Im for ticketing those that well deserve it, but not this renegade sting opeations and speed traps that harass citizens. Its digusting. Bad enough we must contend with the camera ticket devices let alone deal with bunch of yahoo cops pulling way to many vehicles over. Seriously, they are better things for police to do? Example a burglary in progress in valley stream a few weeks ago, and like a dozen police show up? Like a bunch of wild boy scouts, guns toting out, tripping over each others feet,It looked really stupid on tv. You dont need a whole precient of police officiers to one buglary in progress call? When you have that many police respond, there is an obvious issue that the NCPD are bored and out of control. Way to many police on the county budget overpaid and bored. So lets start chopping down this police club and begin to fix the budget, starting with that.

The same people who complain about the pay nassau cops get are most likely the same whom seem to do alot of complaining about everything. Nassau County has always been a safe place to live…thank a cop. After reading about closing the 2nd precinct I will be looking into getting a pistol permit. Crime has recently been on the rise. Mangano Group reminds me of old saying”the inmates are running the asylum” Scarry stuff.

Yes, there were more officers in Nassau during the 70s when they were being paid a fair wage with benefits.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the line we started paying officers more than they are worth or we could afford.

Result: Fewer officers.

If we slashed new officer’s salaries by 30% the dept would still attract qualified candidates…and there would be money to hire more cops.

Nassau and Suffolk should develop a shared resources plan. Seriously, how often are cadaver dogs needed?

Here is something else to consider.

In addition to less police officers, 911 is not manned properly….nor is their Supervision…..someone should do a report on that! The lack of operators is dangerous for the Police as well as the public!

Where are you getting your facts?
The average civil servant makes $20-60k.
You think the county is getting safer? Look again. Patrol officers are constantly getting hurt while protecting the citizens of Nassau County. Something you fail to see.
They get hurt in arresting perps who will resist, they get hurt in persuits, they now get shot for interviewing potential armed robbers.
The 3rd PCT is one of the busiest and biggist PCTs in Nassau. It runs from the Cross Island Parkway to the Wantagh Pkwy.
They indeed patrol the Westbury and Carle Place area.
If you don’t see them, it’s because they are on a crossing guard detail (since they’re getting layed off) and on shop lifting arrests. It’s the holidays. Shoplifting is common around this time of year.
Since you like to talk out of your ass, know your facts!
Take a look at your taxes. How much goes to public safety and how much goes to schools?
“For the children?” Look at the administrators who are laughing all the way to the banks! Some make over $200k while they lay off teachers, the ones who teach the kids!
Last I remembered, the kids aren’t getting much smarter.
Again, know the facts before you bitch and moan!

Like former PBA president Gary Dellarraba once said to me, “The whole second floor of police headquarters could disappear and the job wouldn’t even notice. Actually, it would probably run better.” Get rid of the overpaid appointed Commissioners with no real qualifications other than being political hacks, Shitcan the inept Chiefs, and start hiring new cops before Nassau County cop numbers get so low that the County becomes Bed Sty. Luckily for the residents of Nassau, the street cops and detectives do the right thing because they are an amazing group of highly trained individuals who, in spite of the the second floor of HQ embecils in charge of them, will do the right thing for the residents.
What the hell happened to the job?

As an overpaid teacher let me give you a spelling/grammar lesson.

You said counties… that is plural, as if there were two counties. The correct use is the posessive form which is county’s.

Overpaid is one word.

Patrolled has two l’s. When a word ends in a consonant and you are adding an ed, you double that consonant.

You wrote deliberatly. It is deliberatEly.

Clearly you can’t spell so you aren’t educated. Why should anyone take anything you say seriously?

This article is well written and is informative. The author cites where she got her information from, unlike Liam, and she brings attention to many issues that the general public is not aware of. I am scared for the safety of my family because I live in Nassau.

How could you say cops are deliberatly not patroling areas? Do you know how many active cops there are on the street? I believe its around 1700, that’s 1700 cops patroling 1.3 million people. And that 1.3 million people are just nassau residents, think about all the other people who travel through nassau or work there who are not residents. There are less police now then there was in the 70′s.
