Anne Hathaway and her longtime boyfriend Adam Shulman are engaged, a spokesman for the actress confirmed.
Rumors regarding the two’s relationship status began swirling after the 29-year-old was photographed in Brooklyn yesterday with both Shulman and a brand new ring on her finger.
Shulman, a fellow actor and jewelry designer, designed the ring with Kwiat Heritage jewels, according to Access Hollywood.
The couple began dating in November 2008, just months after Hathaway ended her four-year relationship with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri. She broke up Follieri right before he pled guilty to 14 counts of money laundering, conspiracy and wire fraud. He is currently serving a four-and-a-half year prison sentence.
“I hate talking about the breakup because I don’t want it to define me, but as is to be expected, there were a lot of lingering trust issues,” she told Vogue after the split.
However, those trust issues seemed to disappear when she started dating Shulman.
“I am very much in love with him; Adam totally ruined my plan,” she told Marie Claire UK in September. “I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time, and then I fell in love like a fool!”
Hathaway has described the 30-year-old as more “mellow” than her previous boyfriends, but told Harper’s Bazaar that that’s what makes the relationship work.
“So far, it’s worked out great,” she said. “Mellow doesn’t always make for a good story, but it makes for a good life.”
Before she takes on her new role as a wife, Hathaway will play Catwoman in Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises,” set for release in 2012.
The actress first broke out as the awkward star of 2001 teen movie “The Princess Diaries.” She was nominated for an Academy Award for 2008’s “Rachel Getting Married” and hosted the Oscars in 2011 with James Franco.
