Nassau and Suffolk county police will be beefing up anti-drunken driving patrols over the long holiday weekend.
Suffolk officials said they will also target aggressive drivers and focusing on downtown shopping areas as well as malls on Black Friday. Distracted drivers using cell phones and those not wearing seatbelts will additionally be targeted.
“These enhanced patrols are put into place to ensure all of Suffolk County’s residents and visitors can enjoy their holiday season,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said.
He said police will be at events where large crowds are expected to gather, including tree and menorah lighting ceremonies and holiday parades.
