Its about time we privatize buses and disband the union thugs. We should do the same for schools, sanitation, state parks and police. We need to do this on a local level. On the national level we need to elect Ron Paul and eliminate the Federal Reserve, all foreign military bases, the EPA, OSHA, DOE, TSA, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security Ponzi Schemes, Obamacare and other wasteful spending.

The best article regarding Long Island Bus. Not even our bigger local newspaper or local news channel has done investigative reporting like this. BRAVO!! I want everyone to know that presiding officer Peter Schmitt is the most disrespectful legislator. At all hearings when the subject of Long Island Bus comes up he will shut the microphone off or get up and go to the bathroom. I guess the only views that matter are his own. And Mr. Mangano? Never present for any. They dont care cause they dont take the bus. If anyone has investigated Veolia, they will realize this company has a history of making promises to get these contracts and then raise fares/ cut routes. In Arizona and Las Vegas alone taxes went up over 50 percent to fund bus operations after Veolia took over. How will this save Nassau County money. I would like talks to resume with the MTA before its too little too late and the public gets stuck with nothing/and or a very bad deal. All we have is a PROMISE not to raise fares/or cut services for one year. THEN WHAT?? The riders deserve better.

With regards to Jay’s comment, it should be noted that all levels of government subsidize the roads we drive on. Our taxes do help drivers. It is good to have a transportation system that is good for drivers, public transit users and cyclists. We should all share the road. Buses are important for Nassau County.

Mangano and Schmitt want to both break the union and force the people that they consider to be “takers” to another area. By decimating the bus system with a private operator, Mangano and Schmitt ensure campaign contributions for Republicans, and are hoping to ensure a permanent Republican majority by encouraging the population transfer of bus riders to other counties. Mangano and Schmitt both know that a majority of voting bus riders vote for Democrats, and are therefore slashing services that primarily serve Democratic-leaning voters. It’s the complete pro-automotive Republican plan as advised by Fox Propaganda Channel.

Mark, the man is an idiot. He has now made himself unelectable (Thank God) for any office. This article is THE FIRST that I have seen written on the subject that included actual reporting. Over at the other paper, they just give Mangano’s press releases.

LIES! The MTA wanted to make cuts. Ed Mangano said that he wanted to go private to save money and keep those runs. It was the COUNTY that would not allow the MTA to make cuts to lightly used runs. Once again, Republicans speaking out of both sides of their mouths.

I know this sounds selfish but, but if a bus line is not profitable sut it down. I dont use the buses and yet my taxes are expected to pay for them. The actual cost should be figured into the fares. I mean come on do I get my insurance and fuel costs subsidized by the county for my car. Pay your way I DO.
