A mother and son were killed and two other children were critically injured in a Manorville crash Saturday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Police are investigating what happened when the mother, Keri Trinca, was driving a 1998 Honda Accord eastbound on the Oceanview Boulevard extension, entered the intersection of County Road 111 and collided with a southbound van driven by Steven Vonfricken, of Saint James, around 8:25 a.m.
Trinca, 30, of Manorville was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Her 7-year-old son was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he succumbed to injuries and was later pronounced dead, police said. Trinca’s 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son were also in the car at the time of the crash. They were transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center and admitted in critical condition, police said.
Vonfricken, 51, and his passenger also went to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.
