The article, titled “Mike Tyson: Sarah Palin met ‘the wombshifter,’” talked about Tyson’s interview on the radio show “Gridlock” on KWWN, ESPN’s Las Vegas affiliate. During the interview Tyson addressed the allegations that Palin had a one-night stand with former NBA star Glenn Rice, and said some not-so-politcally correct things.
Van Susteren first showed her disapproval with a blog post, writing that Carlson was a “pig” and a “purveyor of smut” because he let Tyson’s quotes run without comment. Carlson posted an editor’s note sixteen hours after the article was published, calling the quotes “repulsive,” but this was already after Van Susteren posted her criticism.
Carlson said that he was confused as to why Van Susteren was upset when he went on her Fox News show, and said that he was trying to let Tyson’s words speak for themselves
“Somehow you assumed that we were somehow making this attack on Sarah Palin, which is the opposite in fact of what we were doing,” he said.
“I think you’re lying Tucker,” she retorted.
It later became clear that this was not the first time Van Susteren had an issue with Carlson’s treatment of women.
“You know what Tucker, you’re not a first offender with me,” she said. “I gave you the benefit of the doubt when six months earlier you wrote that MILF comment on your tweet. You are not a first offender on this.”
The tweet she was referring to was one Carlson posted in March that said, “Palin’s popularity falling in Iowa, but maintains lead to become supreme commander of Milfistan.”
Carlson pointed out that when Tyson was last on her show Van Susteren had “asked him nothing about his sexual assault.”
“You asked him questions about how long have you been a vegan, then you sent out a picture of yourself smiling and laughing with Mike Tyson,” Carlson yelled over Van Susteren.
“If you’re so offended by Mike Tyson, why not ask him a real question? Why didn’t you ask him a single hard question? Instead you let him talk about his pigeons.”
On Tuesday Van Susteren wrote on her blog that sometimes friends fight and “we will turn down the temperature and walk away friends in spite of our continuing differences of opinion.”
