A 32-year-old woman has been arrested after she joined in a fight between two 12-year-old girls outside of an elementary school in Shirley over the weekend, Suffolk County police said.
Daphne Melin allegedly egged on the fight outside of William Floyd Elementary School on Lexington Road at 3 p.m. Sunday, police said.
“As the fight was taking place, Melin shouted encouragement to one of the girls and made no effort to stop the fight,” police said in a statement.
Afterward, police said Melin cursed at and spit at another child who had been part of a group that had gathered to watch the fight.
She then kicked that girl and kneed her in the neck and head twice, police said.
Melin, of Shirley, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and attempted assault.
She was released on bail and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Dec. 1.
