A boozed up moose in Sweden ended up getting stuck in an apple tree in an attempt for just one more taste of the fermented fruit that put the animal in its condition.
According to Swedish newspaper The Local, Per Johansson came home from work on Tuesday and heard a bellowing noise coming from the garden next door.
“I thought at first that someone was having a laugh. Then I went over to take a look and spotted an elk stuck in an apple tree with only one leg left on the ground,” he told the paper.
The animal was stuck in the tree’s branches and was clearly in distress, helplessly kicking its leg. Johansson said that it looked like the elk was very drunk, which was probably a result of eating too many fermenting apples.
Johansson called the police while he and a group of neighbors tried to help the elk by cutting down branches. It was finally freed after the fire brigade arrived and bent the tree so it could slide out.

The elk most likely got stuck while it was reaching high to get more apples at the top of the tree. After it was freed, it passed out on the ground for awhile, but emergency services ascertained that it was still alive.
“My neighbor recognized it as the animal that almost ran into her car earlier in the day. She was pretty sure the elk was already under the influence,” Johansson said.
By the morning the animal was gone, most likely out buying painkillers and coffee.
