More than 89,000 homes and businesses remained without power for the fifth day after Tropical Storm Irene blacked out half of Long Island.
Long Island Power Authority officials have promised to have 95 percent of outages repaired by sundown Friday, but many Long Islanders still in the dark are losing patience. A Hicksville man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly threatened the utility company over the blackouts.
About 13,600 more are without power of the New York City metro area. Another 70,000 customers don’t have power upstate as of Wednesday morning.
The outages statewide peaked at about 945,000 Monday morning.
Repairs power outages will take longer in some outlying areas and for those still cut off by flooding or damaged roads.
