For Anne Hathaway, who is playing Catwoman in the final movie of the latest Batman trilogy, “Dark Knight Rises,” she took to YouTube to observe cats to help with her role as Batman’s villain and ally.

She explained her reasoning behind the YouTube viewing in Interview Magazine, saying, she turned to the Internet after her first idea of actually adopting a cat from a rescue shelter didn’t work out.

“I actually had this moment when I convinced one of the assistant directors on the London portion of the film to get a cat with me, the idea being that we were going to get a kitten from a rescue shelter, and he was going to live with me, and I was going to observe it, and when I left London I was going to give it to her,” she told the magazine. “Then, thankfully, her husband pointed out that that was a terrible idea on so many levels, not least of which being that it would probably be really confusing to the cat.”

After thinking twice about that idea, she decided to do what thousands of people do everyday: Watch YouTube.

“So I turned to YouTube instead,” she added, “and got a National Geographic video on cats.”

Chelsea Handler, who is also the host of “Chelsea Lately” on E!, did the interview for the magazine.

The actress appeared on Handler’s show Wednesday, and said she’s been living on “kale and dust” for the training of “Dark Knight Rises.”

“Catsuit’s unforgiving, man,” she said of the outfit that requires the help of two other people to slip into.

Pictures of Hathaway as Catwoman were released by Warner Bros. In the official picture from the movie, Hathaway bares no resemblance to Halle Berry’s “Catwoman” as she is seen wearing a tight leather outfit with a pair of high-tech goggles, while riding the Batpod.

The image on the movie’s official website is titled “selina_kyle” leading some to wonder that this may not be Catwoman’s official costume, but just Selina Kyle, the true identity of Batman’s villain and ally.

The “Princess Diaries” star was first announced as the new Catwoman in a press release by director Christopher Nolan.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story,” Nolan said, according to deadline.com.
