An alleged drunken driver was apprehended following a police chase while the suspect drove the wrong way down the Long Island Expressway early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Suffolk County deputy sheriffs stopped Eric Jones, who was driving his SUV 50 mph eastbound in the westbound lanes, near exit 70 in Manorville at 2:40 a.m., authorities said.
Deputy sheriffs boxed in the SUV to avoid a crash with oncoming traffic and make sure the 20-year-old Riverhead man did not escape.
Authorities said Jones had a blood alcohol content of .20 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit.
Jones was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and traffic violations.
Bail for Jones was set $5,000 cash or $15,000 bond when he was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
