Roof Repair Gone Grand Larceny

by Jessica Sinclair on July 10, 2011

According to detectives, an elderly couple was in their home on Peninsula Boulevard in Lynbrook, at around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, when a Hispanic male in his 50’s knocked on their door and offered to perform a roof repair for them for $350.  The victims noticed two Hispanic females and a young female approximately 6 years of age, sitting in a black pick up truck. The victims agreed to the repair and allowed the two women and the child into the house to stay cool.

The victims retrieved $350 from a container in which they keep cash, replaced the lid and laid it in the sink. They paid the male subject and were momentarily distracted when he asked to use the restroom. When the subjects left the house, the victims noticed the container was on the countertop and the remaining cash was missing.

Detectives request anyone with information about this larceny to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
