Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice is offering free driver’s license readers to bars and restaurants on Long Island as part of an anti-drunken driving initiative.
The handheld devices, which were donated by Heineken, are used to authenticate a valid New York State drivers’ license.
The prosecutor says the effort is intended to prevent underage drinkers from using phony IDs to get alcohol.

The county has 250 of the devices available.
They are being distributed through a group called Restaurants Against Drunk Driving.
