Police: Levittown Man Killed Trying to Cross Hempstead Tpke

A pedestrian was killed early Saturday morning trying to cross Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown, Nassau County police said.

According to police, Peter Thearle, 19, of Levittown was attempting to cross Hempstead Turnpike by Gardiners Avenue around 4:25 a.m., when he was struck by a 2003 Dodge pickup truck traveling eastbound in the right lane, police said.

The victim was then struck a second time, police said, after a 2003 Saturn traveling eastbound in the center lane hit him.


Thearle was pronounced dead at the scene by a volunteer emergency medical technician at 4:38 a.m., police said.

Detectives said there is no apparent criminality at this time.
