Students were busy dancing to Beyonce when they got the surprise of their lives; they would be dancing with Beyonce.
About 85 students at P.S. 161 in Harlem were in the middle of a choreographed routine Tuesday to a song adapted from Beyonce’s hit “Get Me Bodied” when the singer arrived, reported Huffington Post.
The children were participating in a national simulcast of “Let’s Move Flash Workout.” It’s part of first lady Michelle Obama’s fitness campaign.
First Lady Michelle Obama campaign is called “Lets Move,” and looks to solve the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight.
It comes in response to the increasing unhealthy lifestyles Americans have acquired over the past three decades. Childhood obesity rates in America have tripled and today, nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese.
“Let’s Move is dedicated to solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. Combining comprehensive strategies with common sense, Let’s Move! Is about putting children on the path to a healthy future during their earliest months and years. Giving parents helpful information and fostering environments that support healthy choices. Providing healthier foods in our schools. Ensuring that every family has access to healthy, affordable food. And, helping kids become more physically active.” – (www.Letsmove.gov)
The Let’s Move campaign combats the epidemic of childhood obesity through partnerships with States, communities, and the non-profit and for-profit private sectors.
“The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake,” said Mrs. Obama in a White House press release. “This isn’t the kind of problem that can be solved overnight, but with everyone working together, it can be solved. So, Let’s Move.”
