Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has postponed his annual state of the county address due to the fatal shooting of a county police officer on Saturday night.
The address had been scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Gold Coast Studios in Bethpage, the Republican county exec’s hometown. A new time was not immediately available.
“County Executive Mangano apologizes for any inconvenience and asks that the community join him in honoring the memory of our fallen hero who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting Nassau residents,” his spokesman said in a statement Sunday.
Officer Geoffrey Breitkopf, a member of the Bureau of Special Operations, was fatally shot by an MTA officer while responding to a home where Nassau County police officers had killed a man who lunged at them with knives.
