Many asset-forfeitures involve no criminal charges (or activity). It’s a polite way for the government to steal money and make you prove in court that you deserve to have it back.

who would have gotten use of the forfeiture funds if not the taxpayers in the long run?
whatever the forfeitures would have paid for will be funded by taxpayer money.
this is just shifting money around, it will cost the taxpayers, of course.
what a debacle.
