Chris Martin scored 18 points and Stony Brook held off Albany 67-61 on Saturday in the first round of the America East Conference tournament.
Dallis Joyner nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds for the Seawolves (14-16), who won their third straight and will play the winner of Vermont-Binghamton.
Bryan Dougher finished with 12 points and Leonard Hayes added 11 for Stony Brook.
Joyner’s free throw with 6:14 left in the second half gave the Seawolves a 56-48 lead, but had a tough time holding off Albany. The Great Danes cut the margin to two points on Tim Ambrose’s two free throw with 46 seconds remaining.
But Albany (16-16), which had its four-game winning streak snapped, pulled no closer as Stony Brook used free throws from Hayes and Martin down the stretch to secure the victory.
Ambrose led Albany with 24 points.
