Honor Code: BYU Honor Code

After Brigham Young University suspended basketball player Brandon Davies for having sex with his girlfriend, people have been wondering, what exactly is in the honor code?

“We believe in being honest, true chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men,” reads the honor code that is on the BYU website.

People have been debating if they believe that the school acted appropriately, but it is clearly stated in the code that sexual misconduct is not allowed.

The code also addresses homosexual behavior, dress code, clean language, and abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, tea, coffee and substance abuse.

The university followed it’s own rules as it clearly states that in order to continue enrollment at the university that students must comply with the code.

“Students must be in good Honor Code standing to be admitted to, continue enrollment at, and graduate from BYU. The term ‘good Honor Code standing’ means that a student’s conduct is consistent with the Honor Code and the ideals and principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” according to the BYU website.
