Accenture Match Play 2011: Accenture Match Play 2011 Begins Today

The Accenture Match Play tournament kicks off today at Dove Mountain in Arizona, as the top 64-golfers in the sport prepare for the first World Golf Championship of the season.

Match Play isn’t a traditional tournament. The golfers are seeded depending on their ranking, and only the top-64 in the sport are invited to participate.

“I used to love match play as a kid. It was my favorite,” Padraig Harrington said. “When I was an amateur, I was shooting scores I couldn’t shoot today. I was shooting well under par. Now, professional golf has taken that out of me. We play so much stroke play that you’re cautious. You don’t want to make mistakes. Professional golf knocks the edge off you.”

The Golf channel will begin its coverage at 12 p.m. today.

The world will be watching Tiger Woods as he attempts put his struggles behind him.

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood are the No. 1 seeds in the bracket.
