NCIS has suspended filming after Julio Garcia, a security guard on the set of the show, was killed in a freak accident last week.
Garcia, 52, was on the NCIS set tenting a staging area at 10 a.m. when he was hit by a van used on the set by production.
Ralph Blunt, 60, was driving the van when he lost control of the vehicle after suffering some kind of undisclosed medical condition. The van hit Garcia and then two parked cars.
CBS said in a statement on Wednesday that production on the set of NCIS continues to be suspended and will remain so until further notice.
“Everyone at the network, the studio and NCIS is devastated by the news,” CBS said in the statement. “Our hearts grieve for his family and friends for this tragic loss. We are, of course, cooperating with the local authorities in Santa Clarita to help determine what caused this terrible accident.”
NCIS producers also said in a statement, “With profound sympathy we mourn the tragic passing of our co-worker and friend. ‘NCIS’ is a family. And, as with any family, we are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.”
