Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Kicks Off on Monday

While men and women are excited about celebrating their love for each other on Valentines Day, dog lovers around the country will tune in for the 135th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show that kicks off on Monday.

According to the Westminster Kennel Club website, the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding group competition will be televised live Monday on USA Network from 8-9 p.m. and continuing on CNBC from 9-11 p.m.

And puppy lovers can continue their two day love affair with dogs on Tuesday when the Sporting, Working, Terrier, and Best In Show competition will be televised live Tuesday on USA Network from 8-11 p.m.

The competition itself will take place at Madison Square Garden.

Six new breeds will make their debut under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden this Monday: the Boykin Spaniel, Bluetick Coonhound, Redbone Coonhound, Cane Corso, Leonberger and the Icelandic Sheepdog.

And yes for those men out there who tell their significant others that they want to watch sports on Monday night, the dog show is considered a sport. According to its website, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which began in 1877, is America’s second-longest continuously held sporting event, behind only the Kentucky Derby.

According to its website tickets are still available for both days through TicketMaster or the Madison Square Garden ticket office.
