To be fair, the first reason was not her fault. A musical “Tonya and Nancy: The Rock Opera” premiered at the Oberon in Cambridge, Mass. Before you rush to buy tickets, the show ended Feb. 2.
The plot is the same as it was 17 years ago-Hardings’ ex-husband Jeff Gillooly plans an attack on figure skating champion Nancy Kerrigan in a desperate attempt to help Harding’s chance at gold in the 1994 Olympics. Only this time, it was set to music. Of course, her sex tape and “Celebrity Boxing” episodes also find their way into the script.
Even though show’s producer, Paul T. Boghosian, described it as “a funny, loony, memorable night of theater,” he also stressed that it was more than that
“There’s this view out there that Nancy is a sweetheart and Tonya’s the devil,” he said, and added that an interesting twist of the show was that the audience could sympathize with Harding. And Harding approved, coming out and saying she supported the show when it play in Portland, Ore., in 2008.
And of course, one of the songs was appropriately titled “Why Me?”
In other Tonya news, she has recently announced that she and her husband Joseph Price have a bun in the oven. It’s a boy, and the first child for Tonya, 40, who says she is “super excited.”
