Dominic Barbara, a high-profile Garden City-based attorney, has been suspended from practicing law for the next year and a half.
His noted clients have included Joey Buttafuoco, Jessica Hahn and Daniel Schuler, whose wife was involved in a wrong-way crash that killed eight people on the Taconic Parkway.
Barbara was cited for billing errors and improper staff supervision. An appellate court found him guilty of professional misconduct. It noted he has received 20 sanctions between 1988 and 2009, including nine letters of caution.
He did not immediately return a telephone call for comment.
Buttafuoco served jail time for statutory rape after his 1990s affair with then-teenager Amy Fisher. She went to prison for shooting Buttafuoco’s wife.
Hahn was the secretary embroiled in a church scandal involving evangelist Jim Bakker.
Barbara has been practicing law in New York since 1971.
