The Gossip Girl turned cover-girl has made another step in her fashion life by maturing into a full grown spokes-woman. And who better to do so for then the one and only Chanel.
Announced last month, Blake Lively is officially the latest beauty to take on the role as the face of Chanel. This month’s issue of WWD provides greater detail to this not so suprising news – in the past year Blake Lively has not only continued her work as Gossip Girls breathtaking leading lady Serena van der Woodsen but has also appeared on the cover of Vogue twice, and the New York Times has deemed her hair as iconic as Rachel’s from Friends.
However, that was simply not enough. Lively, who Karl Lagerfield has called an “American dream girl”, will represent Chanel’s campaign for the new Mademoiselle line of handbags this Spring. The partnership came about after editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, introduced Lively and Lagerfield. The two then had dinner together before the Chanel couture show last July, soon after which he announced Lively as the “official ambassador” for the handbags.
“I took a photo of him so that I would never forget that moment,” Lively told WWD, “Never did I think six months later he would be photographing me.”
The bags – which were introduced last May – are sure to pop up on red carpets and Hollywood’s best in the coming months and will most likely pop up on the set of the starlet’s CW series. This is the star’s first major fashion campaign not including the holiday GAP ads she did in 2007. Chanel is always a good place to start.
