Aretha is not the first celebrity to “die” by internet. We lost Aaron Carter yesterday. And Bobby Brown has died multiple times, as has Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.
What made Aretha’s fake death so believable (and tasteless) is that fact that the legend was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and underwent surgery weeks ago. However, a source close to her told the Detroit Free Press that she is “home, alive and recovering.”
There’s enough real death in the news. Which begs the question: Are we really that morbid that we feel like real death isn’t good enough?
