In an effort to prevent drunken driving across Long Island this holiday season, taxi cab companies in Suffolk and Nassau counties are giving the public the gift of the Holiday Free Ride Initiative.
The program provides free rides to all those who need them through Jan. 1. Long Islanders are urged to utilize the service if they are drinking alcohol at bars and holiday parties.
The companies participating in the initiative throughout Nassau and Eastern Queens include Ollie’s Taxi &Airport Service, All Island Transportation, Glen Belle Car Service and Deluxe Transportation. All can be reached at 516-326-9090.
Suffolk County Lindy’s Taxi will be offering the same services and can be reached at 631-265-2727.
“We want all or our residents and customers to be safe over the holiday season,” said Marianne Blessinger, president of Ollie’s Taxi & Airport Service. “During this joyous time of year, our goal is to prevent or stop any horrible tragedies. If we can avoid one accident or someone from being injured it is well worth it.”
The services not only provide rides home that night, taxis also offer free rides back to the driver’s car the next day, a main reason why people often refuse to give up their keys and take a ride home. With this comprehensive service there is simply no excuse.
Again, the numbers are 516-326-9090 in Nassau and 631-265-2727 in Suffolk. Don’t drink and drive!
