Heidi Jones told police that a hispanic man had attacked her and tried to rape her while she was jogging in Central Park on Sept. 24. She said he let her go after two tourists saw them. In November the 37-year-old told them that the man was harassing and told her “I know you went to the police.
Police investigated, reviewing surveillance footage, and found discrepancies in Jones’ story. When confronted, she admitted to making up the story. She said that she was having personal problems and hoped the story would give her sympathy and attention.
If she is convicted she could face a year in jail with a chance of a $1,000 fine. She is due in court on Jan. 5
