I love how they cant figure out a way to balance the budget yet im sure everyone on the committee is making 20+ million a year. Im pretty sure in todays age you can find someone that can run the system for a lot less than that…

And just WHY does the MTA have so much debt?

Albany.

Pataki and other NY Governors cut state funding, while some projects were in progress, and forced the MTA to sell bonds.

Don’t get me wrong, the MTA is a bunch of idiots, only surpassed by the stupidity of Albany.

The DE/DM engines of the LIRR consume approximately 300 gallons in a 24hr period sitting in a yard, idling all night. On the road, the DE/DM’s will consume with an average train 400-500 gallon per 200 miles.
Why don’t they shut off the engines at night?!
The railroad would argue “Yes, it’s a chore to start these things up, so we’d rather let them idle all night.”

But you or I would gladly do it if the $1200 of fuel wasted daily was coming out of our pockets.

If the MTA was honorable. these engines would never be polluting the Island with $9,000 each of wasted diesel fuel weekly. There is just ONE way to cut costs.
