Authorities have identified a 62-year-old Stony Brook man as the person who was killed when his Long Island-bound plane crashed in rural western Massachusetts injuring three others, including two additional Long Islanders.
Massachusetts state police said Monday that Robert Lothrop was killed when the single-engine Cessna U206G suffered engine failure and went down Sunday after it hit a power line while attempting an emergency landing near Leverett.
State police said William Schelley of Miller Place, pilot Matthew Wilding of Stony Brook and Dayna Dicamillo of Stoddard, N.H., remain hospitalized at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
The plane took off from Keene, N.H., and was destined for Long Island MacArthur Airport.
The plane is owned by Airborne Maintenance Inc. of Ronkonkoma. The company phone rang busy on Monday.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
