Very good analysis of a franchise that has lost
its way. Tell us in the future what does the draft look like this year, who can be use as trade bait at the deadline and what does the free agent
class look like at the end of the year. Remember,
we are all ISLANDERS.

How can Yashin's contract be depressing when it is the only thing that is keeping the team compliant with the NHL salary floor?

The team is a misrun joke of a franchise that is as far away from the dynasty team as we are from the moon. The only player who is a legit NHLer are on the IR, what is left is a AHL side that is rightfully getting spanked by the real teams.

While I partially buy the notion that very few players want to come here – especially with the future location of the team so cloudy – I can’t imagine some of these second tier free agents wouldn’t have considered playing here for the right offer. It’s still the NHL and Long Island isn’t exactly an awful place to live. While Snow made a couple of ok moves on defense he has left the team so thin up front the kids there are struggling. Way to much pressure to score on 19, 20, 21 year olds – and they are all starting to squeeze those sticks very tightly. Might be time for Snow to think about a deal for a legit star up front and deal one of his young chips – before there’s an announced crowd for 2,500 at an upcoming home game. They need serious help at forward as goals are getting as scarce as playoff appearances.

Mac,
Think i hit the send button too early...
The reason Garth Snow cannot attract any quality player to the team is because none of the NHL players want to play for the Islanders. I play pick up games with the father of an NHL player who tells me his son, nor any other player in the NHL is willing to play here BECAUSE the islanders are not considered a "hockey" organization. Specifically, he tells me his son (a life long Islander fan) and his NHL colleagues are in the majority within the league who avoid the Islanders because of the organizations Hockey prowess at the Owner ship and GM levels. If true, Right on Garth can fire away all the coaches he wants... we will get no where until the head of the snake is taken off..
