Miguel Soto of New Haven Conn. was leaving a deli after buying a sandwich when he was shot twice; once in the leg and the other in the groin. Instead of rushing to the emergency room, the 25-year-old went home and ate his lunch before asking his father to take him to the hospital. Police did not disclose whether Soto had realized he had been shot or decided the injuries were not serious enough to warrant a hospital visit. His injuries were non life-threatening, and in his defense, we all know how long a trip to the emergency room takes. And if it was a really good sandwich…

A new study has found that women with stressful jobs face a 40 percent higher risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke or need surgery to open a blocked artery. A total of 17,415 healthy women who were primarily Caucasian health professionals and 57 years old were followed for more than 10 years to track the development of cardiovascular disease. The report, which was unveiled at an American Heart Association meeting in Chicago, said that the higher risks included heart attacks, ischemic strokes, coronary artery bypass surgery or balloon angioplasty and death. The risk of bypass surgery or invasive procedure was about 43 percent and the increased risk of heart attack was 88 percent. The study also found that fear of losing a job was associated with high blood pressure, increased cholesterol and excess body weight, all risk factors for cardiovascular disease…

He is currently serving a two-month sentence for cursing at a female airport employee in Dubai and giving her the finger. The employee had reportedly refused to let Anthony use a customer service phone at Dubai International Airport. Anthony was convicted of “indecency and insulting an employee.” He has launched an appeal but remains in jail…

Want to get out of jury duty? Just mention that you used to be bff with a serial killer. John Backderf was excused from jury service in Cleveland after he was asked if he’d known anyone convicted of a crime. “I had a close friend in high school who killed 17 people” was his answer. This understandably caused the judge to freeze and the lawyers to drop their pens. Backderf was dismissed. His childhood friend, Jeffrey Dahmer, confessed to killing and dismembering men and boys in Milwaukee. He was killed by an inmate in a Wisconsin prison in 1994. Backderf is a graphic novelist who is about to publish “My Friend Dahmer”…

A 22-year-old California man was arrested for allegedly trying to run down his ex-girlfriend after she refused his marriage proposal. Francisco Hernandez proposed at the Burger Stop, which sounds like a romantic dining establishment completely appropriate for the occasion. When the woman said no, Hernandez is said to have driven his car over the sidewalk, through bushes and into the parking lot, narrowly missing her. He was arrested walking down the street with a bouquet of flowers. Hernandez faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon…
