Last night the celebrities on Dancing With the Stars found out who was going to the finals next week, and to many the results came as a shock.
Early on in the night Jennifer Grey and partner Derek Hough were told that they would be dancing in the finals. Kyle Massey and partner Lacey Schwimmer were the next couple to find out that they were also safe and going to the finals.
After performances from Annie Lennox and Enrique Iglesias, the final two teams, Brandy and Maks Chmerkovskiy and Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas were told their fates. When Tom Bergeron announced that it was Brandy and Chmerkovskiy would not be dancing next week, a quick camera shot of Grey and Hough showed looks of disbelief. Judge Bruno Tonioli echoed their sentiments, telling the singer “I am shocked, because last night you delivered a fantastic performance, amazing. I am so disappointed.” Brandy had received a perfect score of 30 the night before for her Argentino tango, and was even asked to perform it again on Tuesday’s show.
Many are shocked that Brandy, who was at the top of the leader board throughout the season and considered a potential winner, will not be headed to the final, and Palin, who was at the bottom of the leader board throughout the season, will be.
The show’s judging system combines the score of the judges with votes from viewers. Many have criticized the fact that Palin remains on the show while more talented dancers are voted off, and say that it is the Tea Party and her mother’s supporters who are keeping her on. Palin and Ballas say that this is not the case, and people vote for her because she is more relatable than the others.
