In response to James from Massapequa, there are many quotes attributable to Thomas Jefferson. Reading through them, it is easy to see that he was far ahead of his time.

The Founding Fathers were intent upon avoiding a monarchy at all costs. After all, that is what the Revolution had been fought for.

They tried to consider all the possibilities that could result from the various forms of government, and wrote a Constitution was purpose was to limit the government and strictly define its capabilities.

Another verifiable quote from Jefferson - "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. "

What would make him say this? Only his ability to project and and foresee events and how they might unfold.

The reference to churchgoers is unfounded as well. The point is this - it is our places of worship wherefrom we put forth our generosity and goodwill toward others. This generosity comes from the heart, rather than from laws that are imposed and forced upon us.

Reading the Founding Fathers is a very enlightening endeavor. I urge everyone to take the time.
