Hooper, who was first elected in a 1988 special election, is seeking her 11th full term. The 71-year-old former social worker and public employee union leader prides herself on being the deputy Assembly speaker, which makes her the highest-ranking female state lawmaker. She sits on the education, rules and ways & means committees.
