Loop Parkway will be closed for five 1/2 days for drawbridge maintenance work starting Friday morning.
The closure begins 10 a.m. Friday and continues through 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. Loop Parkway connects Meadowbrook State Parkway and Lido Boulevard in Point Lookout on the eastern tip of Long Beach Island.
The closure is necessary for repairs to be done on the 75 year-old Loop Parkway Drawbridge. The work was originally scheduled to begin last weekend but was postponed due to weather conditions.
The Long Beach Road or Atlantic Beach bridges should be used as alternative routes during the Loop Parkway closure, DOT officials said.
Long Creek Channel access will remain open to mariners.
