A 26-year-old Patchogue man has died 11 days after he was injured in a hit-and-run crash by an accused drunken driver in Bohemia, Suffolk County police said.
Kevin Mead, who was critically injured with head and chest trauma in the Oct. 3 crash, died Thursday at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.
Mead was the rear-seat passenger in a Mazda that was rear-ended by Robert Watson on Nissan Veterans Memorial Highway, police said.
Allan Collins, the driver of the Mazda, was stopped at a red light at the corner of Johnson Avenue when the 24-year-old Nesconset man crashed into Collins’ car and then drove off, police said.
Collins, 57, and his 24-year-old daughter, Stephanie, who was seated in the front passenger seat, were also taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center where they were treated for shock.
Watson was apprehended shortly later and charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an incident with injury and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
He was freed on $75,000 bail following his Oct. 4 arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip.
