MM From West Islip
This might just be a really fun to team to cover this season. Four games in is certainly no reason to get too excited but they have looked very good for all but a period or two. Much more physical up front and that has been the most noticeable change from last year so far. Let's see what the next few games bring. El Nino looks very intriguing thus far as well - gotta love how he is finishing his checks and Grabner can fly - hopefully he can finally put it together. We'll see - as there is a ton of road games coming up as after tonight it's 10 of the next 12 on the road. Not a bad early season test.

awesome article mike, agree with everything that you said. i love the addition of toughness to the team, over the three games they've played so far you can see the change, this year they wont be getting pushed around by the bigger sized teams. they seem to buy into gordon's style of play, and it seems they are more of a complete unit together this year, especially with the team voting together for a new goal song. love the pick up of Wisniewski, he already has a fan following, i can see him being the next steve webb with the fans, even tho he doesnt have the power like streit, he will bring help to the power play.

I sense these two responses are from men that are related somehow - just a hunch. Regarding John From Larchmont's comment on Weight - I have to say I am liking his play these first two games- don't shoot this old horse just yet. And for Mr Lee, can't complain about Garth at this point- some shrewd moves - though most have been very budget conscious. As for Gordon - let's see what happens this season - injuries or not, this club has to make the post season or he's gone. Keep reading and play nice.

Mac,
I like your preview and think its pretty much dead on. A few things you did cover in your review of this years Isles is coaching and GM.
How would you rate Snow and Gordon? Are these guys the right guys to lead this team to the promised land of the playoffs? Also, one request please... can dedicate one or two of this years articles to ths issue of "why top talent in the NHL does not want to play on LI", and how the Isles ownership may be contributing to this issue?

Thanks... Go Isles!

Good article. Agree on all fronts, but I would like to underscore a few points. This Islander team is all about the youth movement -young, talented kids that want to win (and can). That's the positive side. The negative side is veteran leadership (or the lack thereof). I don't think his health is Doug Weight's problem any longer. Its age and ability. In my house his nickname is now "dead", which is what the Isles are carrying with his 1 year contract. To me, the leader torch is already in Mark Streit's hand, and his injury is bigger than just missing his skills. But they need another vet or 2 up front as well....
