UPDATE: Well, Friday has undoubtedly taken a turn for the MAYBE GOOD MAYBE STILL BAD: Kanye tweeted today “For the real hip hop fans… even though I had to shift all my energy to mixing my album do to leaks….” and “I’m trying to still deliver a new Good Friday song 2nt… Let’s pray!!!” Church!
It’s going to be a BAD Friday.
Kanye West has put his ongoing GOOD Fridays on hold following numerous song leaks this week, including what sounds like a finished version of “Lost In The World,” which West performed at Facebook’s HQ a few months ago.
“Due to blogs leaking unfinished songs from my actual album I’ve decided to pass of Good Fridays this week,” West tweeted earlier in the week.
The track samples the Bon Iver song “Woods.” Justin Vernon, the guy behind Bon Iver, in a recent interview with Pitchfork.com, said the track “sounds exactly like how you want it to sound: forward moving, interesting, light-hearted, heavy-hearted, f*cking incredible sounding jam.”
Well said, Mr. Vernon. Seriously, if you know of an artist making music right now anywhere near as good as Kanye West, please leave a comment, because I’d love to know who they are.
West has been giving away a free track each Friday through his GOOD Fridays—named for his GOOD (Getting Out Our Dreams) Music label—in the lead-up to his upcoming, still-untitled-but-possible-named-Dark Twisted Fantasy album. Previous tracks included the Beyonce-saying-the-N-word “See Me Now,” VMA performance “Runaway,” and soundtrack-to-Halloween “Monster.”
