Hempstead Hammer Attacker Also Wanted for Texas Tot Rape

by Timothy Bolger on September 28, 2010
Have you seen this man? Call Nassau police Crime Stoppers.

A DNA match has revealed that the man who beat a Hempstead woman with a hammer two months ago is also wanted for raping a 2-year-old girl in Texas last year, Nassau County police said.

Have you seen this man? Call Nassau police Crime Stoppers.

Although police only know him as Marvin, the suspect’s DNA was found in a national database linking him to a September 2009 toddler rape in Laredo, Texas, when Nassau detectives gathered physical evidence in the home of a woman he attacked after she hired him to fix her leaky toilet this summer, police said.

Investigators said the suspect had offered his services as a handyman outside the Home Depot on Fulton Avenue on the night of July 16. The woman agreed but after he finished the job, she complained that the toilet still leaked, enraging the attacker, who then beat the 52-year-old victim in the head repeatedly with a hammer, fracturing her skull, police said.

“It was quite a gruesome scene,” said Detective Lt. Ray Cote of the Third Squad, who released surveillance camera images of the suspect Monday in hopes someone might recognize him.

The suspect, who fled in an unknown direction, is described as a 5-foot, 2-inch tall day laborer from Honduras with short, dark hair and possibly a limp. He wore a glove on his left hand, which police believe may be to cover up an injury, and was seen in the area as recently as last week.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for multiple skull fractures. She is suffered from permanent neurological damage, Cote said.

Lardeo police confirmed that they are working with Nassau police on the investigation.

A-Your flower girl can wear any colored dress, which of course coordinates with the rest of your wedding party.
