Colvin was running home from third base in the second inning of a game against the Florida Marlins when the bat, shattered by teammate Welington Castillo, struck him. It punctured him in the upper chest, potentially exposing his lung. Colvin is now being treated in a Miami hospital and is expected to remain there for the next few days.
The Cubs released a statement by Colvin today, saying that he is doing fine and thanking fans for their support. The injury brings an early end to Colvin’s playing season this year.
