The events of Sept. 11, 2001 may be nine years in the past, but the effects are still being felt. Here are some events to remember those we lost:

Fundraiser in Honor of Fallen FDNY Responder Vincent Albanese @ Hofstra Fieldhouse Bubble

Vincent Albanese, a NY firefighter and responder on the morning of the Sept. 11 attacks, lost his life this past July. This fundraiser will raise money for other first-responders who have life-threatening illnesses. Events include meditation and drills with former NFL players, including Bobby Jackson, Wesley Walker and Bruce Harper.

Patriot Day Golf Tournament @ Long Island National Golf Club

Riverhead’s National Golf Club will be the site for this Patriot Day fundraising links outing. Members of all our military branches, national color guard, Suffolk County Police bag pipe band and the US Army will be in attendance, and former President Bush will speak to attendees via satellite. There will also be a Congressional medal of Honor recipient present.

A Concert of Remembrance @ Central Presbyterian Church

Poet-Singer, Michael Lamanga, The Spiritlifters and The Central Praise Band will pay respect to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 with an outdoor concert on the lawn of the Central Presbyterian Church.

Flying Kite Exhibit @ Riverside Boulevard Beach

Professional kite flyers will be on the beach, along with a patriotic sand sculpture and live music. Children will be given kites to fly and flags to place in a memorial garden.

Dogfiles: Hero Dogs of 9/11
Nearly 3,000 people were killed on Sept. 11, and another 6,000 suffered injuries. When it came time to rescue anyone who could be saved, man’s best friend was right there to lend a paw. “Hero Dogs of 9/11” uses a photo montage to tell the story of the rescue dogs who aided in finding buried people and saving lives.
