Some of Hollywood’s most famous cars could wind up parked right here on Long Island if Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has his way.
Mangano expressed interest in such a project, dubbed the “Autoseum,” at a press conference today. The conference coincided with weekend-long Hollywood Stars Car Show at Garden City’s Cradle of Aviation Museum.
“In the spirit of attracting film industry jobs to Nassau County and expanding what we started at Grumman Studios in Bethpage, I am now exploring the possibility of bringing this company to Nassau County to not only display the cars, but to also build them here and teach the trade,” Mangano said.
The “Autoseum” would serve several purposes. It would produce cars to be used in films and create jobs associated with those projects, as well as provide an education to anyone interested in learning to build them and fuel-efficient cars for the future.
The Hollywood Stars Car Show, which features KITT from Knight Rider, the 1966 Batmobile, General Lee from The Dukes of Hazard and the James Bond 007 car, continues tomorrow from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
