A motorcycle crash claimed the life of a 27-year-old Bay Shore man on the Southern State Parkway in Central Islip early Sunday morning.
New York State police said Efrain Villon and two other men were riding their motorcycles in a group westbound between 5th Avenue and Route 111 when Villon tried to pass a Toyota Scion but misjudged his clearance at 2:30 a.m.
Villon’s cycle struck the rear of the Scion, lost control and struck a motorcycle ridden by 31-year-old Hriftodoulo Filippatos of Woodside, causing them to both crash to the pavement, police said. A third motorcycle, ridden by 29-year-old Nikloaos Milatos, lost control and slid to the pavement while trying to avoid the crash, police said.
Villon was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead an hour later. Filippatos and Milatos were taken to Southside Hospital where they were treated for multiple abrasions.
None of the occupants of the Scion were injured. The road was closed for about eight hours while investigators were on the scene.
