I am currently writing my thesis on the connection between animal cruelty and serial violent crime (in particular child abuse, domestic violence, stranger rape and sadistic murder). I implore you to look at the evidence. Animal abusers are a danger to children, the elderly, the disabled, or anybody weak and vulnerable. They are potential killers, child abusers and rapists There has been a mountain of research published academically on this subject in the past 40 years.

I honestly believe that there should be an register for animal abusers which should be made available to people living within the vicinity in order to protect their children, as well as other vulnerable others.

To “Right to Arm Bears” The real measure of a man is how he treats animals. Some of us love and respect creatures other than ourselves. I bet you are a hunter. It certainly is not the only problem out there, but thankfully there are good people who care about the welfare of animals. Caring, loving people are good for society. Abusers and people like you are not!

It is very sad when we compare “animal abuse” ( which can be construed in many ways”) to actual convicted child abusers..animal abuser do not “adopt” animal in order to abuse them.. show me the “stats’ that prove that.. most abusers have no problem stealing dog.or finding stray cats..as for the “no cost”.. LOL.EVERYTHING COSTS.. I had a good laugh when I read that his would be funded by the abusers themselves..
as for “pet stores” isn’t that what all of you want to STOP? fair trade in dogs an cats.. heck i have heard that many “do gooders’ call pet store employees “abusers”.. this is a very bad idea.. it will cost money.. and solve NOTHING..
A person conviceted of say “hoarding animals” is not the same as the RAPIST of your wife or daughter.. or is it?

RTAB – The fact that you think animal abuse is not a problem is disturbing.
In addition, people who abuse animals have no regard for life, and they most likely will end up committing a violent crime at some point.

I believe this is a great idea. Although I do agree with you that most animal abusers don’t purposely buy animals to abuse them, I still think this law will have an effect. It’s the same principle as a sex offender registry, as stated in the story. It’s unfortunate we have to do this but they’re are some sick puppies out there. @RTAB….are you for animal cruelty? Sounds like it.

Wow, it must be nice that this is the biggest problem in the universe for some individuals.

What, are there legions of animal abusers out there adopting pets and then going to abuse slams!

Why don’t you idiots focus on some problems that might actually make life a little better for us all for a change.

I sincerely believe we should abuse a few of these politicians for abusing all of us.
